Australian Tour - January 22, 2007
And a very belated happy new year to you all!
I am now in Australia getting ready to embark on my first solo regional tour. I feel the need to address that right at the beginning, so people stop coming up to me in the street and saying "Danny! What the fuck are you doin' here so early, mate?" Believe it or not, I do have an existence outside of the regular festival months. Also, it would be nice if people at least tried to stifle their laughter when I mention I might be doing a couple of RSL gigs. I see it as a unique opportunity to take comedy to the fine men and women who fought for our freedom and liberty, and don't you ungrateful lot forget that. "Now, you're sure there's a back way out of those gigs?.."
Right now, the tour just seems like a whole load of meaningless dots on the map, but rest assured by the end of this tour those dots will all mean something. I will be filming some of the road footage along the way, and I'm planning to be fairly active on some of those long, dusty drives between gigs, so if anyone has any suggestions of good places to visit or stop on route please let me know? It could be anything at all? Perhaps not something immediately obvious. Maybe a lowly creek were you used to swim at night, or the seldom-visited Museum of Tin? I want to experience the real Outback (albeit in a fully air-conditioned Tarago), so I'm gonna' be as adventurous as my travel insurance allows me. (it's third party).
I've already received one suggestion to visit a giant potato near, I think, Woolongong? Which is exactly the kind of thing I'm after, so keep those emails coming in...(so far, one). I'm hoping by the end of the tour to present an alternative tour guide to Australia, no doubt with a clever play on the word 'Bhoy' in the title...also open to suggestions on that?
For those of you who have enquired about the DVD, I'm afraid I still don't have a release date. It has been edited and is ready to go, but there are various hold ups which regrettably are out with my control. As excellent folk parody duo 'Flight of The Conchords' once put it, there's "too many mutha'uckers 'ucking wi' ma' shi'" It might be the case that I have to film another one, which I hope will come out later this year.
In the meantime, I wish you all a good year ahead, and hope to see some of you along the way. I've got a good feeling about '07, after all, with Saddam Hussien well and truly gone, surely this is the year Bush and Blair show us their strategy in Iraq was right all along, and we finally see peace and democracy flourish in Iraq. But wait, what's that coming over the hill? i0 Is it a monster? Is it a monster?
best wishes,
Danny
