Edinburgh Previews - June 29, 2006
I've been back in Scotland for 2 weeks and already the dark, pestering clouds of the Edinburgh Fringe are looming. No amount of sunny World Cup action can detract from the anxiety of cobbling a new show together by the beginning of August (has it really been a year?). This will be my 6th consecutive Edinburgh show, shouldn't it be getting easier?
It's been a very long, and pretty hard year so far, and I hope those of you who make it along will enjoy the new show in August. It will probably be a little rough around the edges for the first few nights so go easy on me, I think it could be quite good. It's not really themed, although there are themes starting to emerge in it. It'll probably be a few good yarns, with a serious message at the end (that seems to be the most effective approach in Edinburgh).
I'm doing a few preview gigs in London this month. They may well be listed, but if you fancy coming along and seeing me frantically shuffle bits of chewed up paper around on stage then you can catch me at the following:
Etcetera theatre - July 15th Details: http://etceteratheatre.com/page.php?pageID=2
Hen and Chickens theatre - July 21st Details: http://www.henandchickens.com/comedy.htm
Red Rose- July 22nd Details: http://www.ents24.com/web/whatson/comedy/London.html
Amused Moose - Tufnell park - Either July 26 or 27th (check listings)
The gig I had booked in for 9th July at the Hen and Chickens theatre was cancelled as soon as I realised it coincides with the World Cup final. I have found in the the past, it not a good idea to do gigs at these times. A few years back, I did a show in Brighton on the night that England needed to draw or beat Greece to qualify for the European Championships. Beckham equalised with a free kick in the last few minutes to draw the game 2-2 and england went through, I know all this, because not 1, but 3 guys in the audience (who had been reluctantly dragged along by their girlfriends), had brought in a radio and earphones, and gave out an almightily cheer half way through a rather poignant part of the show, then apologised and sat back down. A depressing night all round.
I've taken some rather nice photos of the recent tour in New Zealand and Australia, and as soon as I work out how to put them on the website I will. In the meantime, it's back to working on the Edinburgh show... oh hang on, what's this? Ukraine v Switzerland? that could be interesting.....
