First Blog! - December 19, 2005

Well, here it is. After 2 years of staring at the same old website, I finally realised I could change it. This is a new beginning my friends. No more tired old biogs, and age-old publicity shots (well, maybe a few), from now on this website is going to be fun! fun! fun! I will be keeping you regularly informed of forth-coming gigs and tour dates, as well as posting downloads and other stuff I don't understand.

It has been a tremendous year and I'd like to thank all the people who have attended my shows. The year began with a trip to one of my favourite comedy festivals in Melbourne and continued with an amazing run of shows in Sydney and Brisbane. Then, it was off to New Zealand, where I played some of my biggest theatres to date. Indeed, I even won an award! That's right, you are currently reading the text of the 2005 People's Choice Award Winner in New Zealand. Apparently, it's 3rd only to the 'Most Helpful Farmer', and the 'Best Use Of Felt' Award. It was difficult to know where to go from there? Ah, yes, back to reality...

....I returned to the UK in late May where I embarked on my second solo tour here, which in retrospect, should have been called the 'back down to earth tour'. My particular thanks go out to the 40-strong crowd in Burnley, who braved the summer heat, to ensure the show went ahead (albeit in the upstairs bar, rather than the main theatre). Thank you also to the people of Winchester, who not only provided my biggest audience of the tour, at over 250, but also confirmed my suspicions that I am massive among the landed gentry of this country.

Then it was off to the Edinburgh Festival, and to the beautifully well-appointed Assembly Rooms on George Street. I realise this may have come as a surprise to people, who in the past 2 years had seen me perform in; a giant, noisy, non- air-conditioned tent just off Lothian Road, and; a financially catastrophic converted cinema premises on South Clerk Street. What can I say? It was time to give my audience that bit of luxury they deserve. I think it was by far my best show to date, so I hope those of you who came enjoyed it.

Since then, I have done a 3-week run in Capetown, South Africa, the Las Vegas Comedy Festival, a run of gigs in Spain, and last week I returned from a week of gigs in Dubai. I'm off to Australia on 25th of December until the 18th January, where I'm doing the Falls Festival in Tasmania on the 30th, and Lorne on 31st. I hope to see some of you there. I'll be the guy on stage getting plastic glasses thrown at him from a 20,000-strong bunch of pissed-up Dandy Warhol fans.

I'm back in Edinburgh after that for a run of 'try-out new material' gigs every Sunday night in Jan/Feb at the Jazz Bar on Chambers Street. Come along and help me work out what makes you laugh. I'll be returning to Australia and New Zealand in the Spring, for a national tour of each with a brand new show. I don't think I'll do a UK tour again until the Autumn of next year, I've got to give plenty of time for the word to spread in Burnley...

If anything else comes up, I'll try and be a little more dilligent and post it on the website. I've also put some new photos on for those of you interested in that kind of thing, and there's a new biog. If you can think of other ways I can improve this website, please drop Bec Sutherland (my promoter) a line at bec@ask-ent.com. For those of you who saw my show last year, you'll know how much of a technophobe I am at heart, but I am slowly forcing myself to 'get with the program....'

Have a very Merry Christmas! God Bless us all, even the people of Burnley.

Danny
